11 die as Nor'wester, lightning strike country


At least 11 died and more than 50 others were injured as Nor'wester lashed and lightning struck different parts of the country on Sunday night and early hours of Monday.
Netrakona: Six people died as Nor'wester struck Netrakona sadar, Kolmakanda, Barhatta and Mohonganj upazilas in Netrakona on Sunday night.
Four among the deceased are from a family of Kolmakanda upazila. They are Sagar, 10, Rassel, 6, Rana, 4, and their mother Afroza.
Another deceased is Fazar Ali Munshi, 80, a resident of the sadar upazila.
More than hundred houses were destroyed, electric supply was snapped and trees were uprooted during the tornado.

Sunamganj: Four people were killed and 50 others injured as Nor'wester struck Dharampasha upazila in Sunamganj.
The deceased are Kashu Miya, 38, Shamsu Miya, 65, Dudh Miya, 50, and Bibi Akhter, 7. Road communications snapped as tress were uprooted onto the roads. 
Electric supply also shattered due to the tornado.
Upazila executive officer Md Khaledur Rahman confirmed the casualties and damage.

Goalanda: The river-transport of Daulatdia-Paturia rout snapped in early hours of Monday.as Nor'wester lashed Goalanda.
A fisherman, Farid Sheikh, 30, was killed in lightning strike while he was fishing in Padma River at Daulatdia. His brother Farhad Sheikh, who was critically wounded in the incident, was taken Goalanda Upazila Health Complex.
