The third phase Indian Lok Sabha elections in nine constituencies of Paschimbanga has begun at about 7:00am on Wednesday.
On the eve of the third phase elections, voters in the nine constituencies--Hawrah, Uluberia, Shrirampur, Hooghly, Arambagh, Birbhum, Bolepur, East Bardhaman and Bardhaman Durgapur--have seemed very excited.
Earlier on 17 April the first phase in four constituencies and on 24 April in six constituencies were completed.
A total of 87 candidates, including 13 female ones, have been contesting for 42 Paschimbanga Lok Sabha seats.
In the third phase election, as many as 1, 39, 57, 378 voters will cast their votes in 17, 330 booths, out of which 173 booths are being controlled by women. A total of 265 companies have been commissioned to watch over the security concerns during the elections.
Four artistes are contesting too in this election to test their luck. They include singer Bappi Lahiri, actress Satabdi Roy, actor George Becker and Joy Banerjee. Among them, Bappi Lahiri, George Becker and Joy Banerjee will be contesting under the BJP banner while Satabdi Roy will contest under the banner of Trinamool Congress.
